Vancouver – U.S. President-elect Barack Obama’s electoral success was underpinned by his teams and supporters savvy management and utilization of the Internet. Adopting strategies and campaigns commonly found in the business world, Obama’s handlers and campaign team generated groundswell support prior to the Democratic primary and right up to his landslide victory.

They carefully segmented Obama’s supporters and then appealed to each differently. For example, the younger, Gen-Y demographic received mobile-friendly text messaging while older, less-mobile voters received news, updates and appeals in short, to-the-point emails.”
Obama’s campaign managers realized and “seized on” the importance of capturing potential supporter information and then communicating with these millions of individuals in a strategic, effective manner.
“Calls to action - such as attending rallies, fundraising and then sending a reminder to vote - were all brilliantly executed,” says Moore. “Days before election day, the Obama campaign was sending daily emails and texts calling for volunteers and encouraging supporters to carpool to the polling stations. Without the Internet, these real-time appeals could not happen in an efficient, cost effective manner.”
Most of the online strategies adopted by Obama are already being deployed by business to protect their reputation, drive sales, enhance marketing campaigns and increase market penetration. The importance of a page one search engine ranking - and how to get one - dominated the SES agenda.
Search-engine leader Google pulled in $5.19 billion in revenues in the first quarter of 2008 - the majority from companies paying Google for sponsored links. Industry statistics reveal that close to 92 per cent of searchers don’t venture beyond page one, to make their search and purchasing decisions.

Vancouver, B.C. Jan. 17, 2008 - Frustrated online retailers are watching in horror as their websites, some of which held long-term, position one or position two rankings on Google, are suddenly falling down the rankings. Numerous former top-ranked sites have dropped to position six or position seven or even lower. Some have fallen below and behind competing firms.
A top Google ranking is the key to success for most online goods and service retailers. The loss of a position one ranking can lead to millions-of-dollars in lost sales.
The online retail community is nervously speculating on the cause and methodology behind the aggressive filtering and penalizing by Google.
Search engine optimization software company iBusinessPromoter (IBP) offers two theories:
First, Google now considers usage data when calculating the rankings.
Second, Google now has a better understanding of word and phrase relationships.
“We have been fielding calls from frantic website owners not affiliated with us,” says Shawn Moore, president of Vancouver’s Think Profits.com Inc. “Many want to know why visitors and customers have suddenly stopped coming. We tell them to check their Google rankings. Almost invariably, they find their ranking has tanked.”
Starting in December, Moore says he has been booking website audits to locate and isolate keyword, structure and link problems and then recommend a solution to this extremely serious problem.
“There are several red flags we look for,” explains Moore. “Google looks for keywords, word densities and website architecture. Google also looks for link or link schemes. If the structure does not meet Google’s specs, results are filtered out. This affects the way Google determines how relevant these pages are to a query.”
There is no simple answer, explains Moore. “We can’t help these worried business owners who are bleeding customers until we look under the hood.”

Vancouver, B.C. Dec. 11, 2007 – Online retailers are realizing it takes more than a pretty website and shopping cart to ring up sales during Christmas 2007. With so many online retail choices and intense competition, the winners have adopted what industry insiders are calling a “searchandising” approach to online sales.
Percolating up from the lexicon of online marketers, ecommerce experts and industry pundits and into the mainstream, searchandising describes the process of combining traditional online merchandising techniques with powerful search engine optimization (SEO), site search and navigation technologies.
According to Shawn Moore, President and CEO of Vancouver on-line marketing and web-development firm Think Profits.com, searchandising is now a core tenet of the industry winners.
“If you sell Nike runners you are up against an ocean-size pool of competitors. According to Chase Paymentech, the world's largest payment processing firm, online sales are up about 30% over 2006. Chase Paymentech, which processed more than $660.6 billion in transactions in 2006 for U.S. and Canadian retailers, said that Tuesdays and Wednesdays in general have turned out to be the most popular online shopping days for U.S. consumers and predicts that December 18 – 20 will be the heaviest online shopping days during this season.
The winners and losers this Christmas season will be sorted according to their searchandising prowess says Moore.
