13 Sep Sleep Out Vancouver: Helping Homeless Youth
We pride ourselves on our quality work in digital marketing, but the other thing that makes our company special is our dedication to giving back. We have a few causes that are meaningful to us, and one of those is helping with homelessness in our city.
In Vancouver, there is anywhere between 500 and 1,000 youths sleeping on the street every night. These are people who suffer from mental health issues, addiction, have had to flee their households due to abuse, or have otherwise found themselves with no other option than living on the street. Each year, our friends at Covenant House host Sleep Out Vancouver to raise money and awareness for youth homelessness. This year, six members of our team will be participating.
The way it works is, after raising $2,000 each, we will be spending the night of February 20th, 2020 on the street with nothing but a sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard (more than many people have) in order to begin to understand the struggle that so many local youths face each and every night. It will be cold and uncomfortable, but since we will all have comfortable beds to go back to the following night, this will only give us a minor glimpse into the reality of homelessness.
Help us reach our goal of raising $12,000 to help young people living on the street. To give you an idea of exactly what your donation will do, here is a breakdown of how far different amounts will go. Remember, every little bit helps—even one hearty meal makes a big difference.
$10 — Provides a youth with three nutritious meals for one day.
$50 — Provides drop-in access for one homeless youth to all services in the Drop-In Centre.
$70 — Provides three nutritious meals for one youth in the Crisis Program every day for one week.
$100—Allows Outreach Workers to connect with one youth on the street and introduce them to
Covenant House programs and services.
$250 — Offers one youth 24-hour Crisis Care in the residential Crisis Program for one day.
$500 — Provides drop-in access for 10 homeless youth to all services in the Drop-In Centre.
$1,000 — Allows Outreach Workers to connect with 10 youth on the street.
In addition to the option of donating through this link, we’ll be hosting some fun events in the coming months with the proceeds all going to Sleep Out, so keep an eye on our social media for updates!
