For instance, if you were originally looking for carsonline.com, why not try something like cars-online.com or cars-online-now.com. Even though this method may leave you with a domain similar to what you wanted, it isn’t exactly the most memorable of domains. If people can’t remember it, then they won’t come back unless someone tells them to. The aim is to get people to know your brand inside out, and that includes the address!

If you’re certain that the domain you want is destined to be yours, and someone else owns it, it’s likely to be in an online auction. Although this can be quite expensive, you can pick up some very good deals if you shop around properly. But ask yourself if you can afford to pay $15,000 instead of getting a different domain? Otherwise, if the owner is willing, he might be willing to let you use the domain in exchange for some of the profit, or using his design company for instance. But is it always necessary for you to get that exact domain for your customers’ convenience?

During my Website Audit with Keith, I learned: The basic criteria used by search engines to determine ranking of websites. The steps that one must take to ensure that your website appears on Page 1 of Google and the amount of control you can exercise in ensuring this happens. Content is king, the extent to which our current website does not support our stated goals. The importance of a consistent keyword strategy that is incorporated into every page and aspect of our site. The need to change our home page to better capture to attention of visitors immediately – an overview of what we do and who we are in one glance. Stronger external rather than internal focus. The options available to increase sales and measure return moving forward such as pay per click, video, social networking options etc. While we had entertained adding a retail component to our site, we have never considered these other options as relevant to our business strategy.
